Per blocco cervicale si intende una forte limitazione dei normali gradi di mobilità (ROM) che impedisce i movimenti di testa e collo; è spesso associato a CERVICALGIA “dolore cervicale o del collo” (algia=dolore). Il dolore si può manifestare solo al collo unilateralmente o bilateralmente, oppure originare dal collo e irradiare verso le spalle (trapezi) o, nei casi più gravi, alle braccia.

Il trattamento osteopatico è basato sulla rimozione delle rigidità e ripristino della mobilità:rimozione delle rigidità della zona testa collo, delle interferenze meccaniche dell’arto superiore se presenti, dell’apparato digerente, riprogrammazione dei patterns sotto-occipitali a start oculo-motorio, neutralizzazione dello stato di compressione, intervento sui due punti d’inserzione meningea, riduzione delle restrizioni di mobilità del complesso occipite-atlante-epistrofeo-mandibola, riprogrammazione dei patterns neuromuscolari complessi che controllano i movimenti delle strutture in oggetto, riequilibrio dei diaframmi principali con tecniche miste strutturali e di riprogrammazione, riduzione delle disfunzioni vertebro-vertebrali e costovertebrali toraciche.
Raramente il trattamento prevede manipolazioni dirette o “Thrust” a livello cervicale sostitute da manipolazioni ad energia muscolare che sfruttano le contrazioni muscolari attive del paziente e seguite da manipolazioni di ricondizionamento fasciale, cranio sacrale e viscerale. Non esiste un vero e proprio protocollo: ogni paziente è di per sé unico e viene trattato nel modo più semplice ed efficace possibile.
