LA POSTURA GIOCA UN RUOLO IMPORTANTE NEI DISTURBI DELLA BOCCA (ATM)

Molte persone sofferenti di disturbo dell’ATM, malocclusione e bruxismo ignorano che la causa del loro fastidio potrebbe essere riconducibile ad un problema posturale.

Disturbo dell’ ATM
Una mascella dolorante o difficile da aprire può essere relazionata a un disturbo temporo-mandibolare, causato dagli effetti dello stress fisico sulle strutture vicine all’articolazione: muscoli (della mandibola, testa, viso, collo), disco fibrocartilagineo, legamenti, nervi e denti.
Quando le articolazioni mascellari sono disfunzionali, i movimenti normali della bocca nel parlare, masticare, sbadigliare o deglutire vengono limitati. Inoltre, possono provocare dolore e rigidità intorno all’ATM, mal di testa e dolore al collo.
Sintomi di un disturbo dell’ATM:

• Dolore al massetere e ai muscoli circostanti
• Click temporo-mandibolare
• Blocco/chiusura articolare
• Dolore all’orecchio, collo, spalle, schiena
• Digrignamento dei denti (bruxismo)
• Difficoltà a masticare, aprire o chiudere la bocca
• Gonfiore e dolore sordo al viso
• Acufeni e vertigini
• Mal di testa
Non sempre questo disturbo è relazionato solo alla corretta posizione del morso (occlusione dentale), come si potrebbe immaginare.
Invece, la cattiva postura gioca spesso un ruolo fondamentale nel disturbo dell’ATM.
Anche traumi e stress di natura fisica o psichica possono attivare i muscoli masticatori, che rimangono ipertonici anche dopo che l’evento sia ormai passato, dando origine poi ad un disturbo dell’ATM. Muscoli masticatori costantemente tesi possono modificare la posizione dell’ATM, influenzando di conseguenza il sistema muscolo-scheletrico e nervoso.

Postura e ATM
Una postura sbagliata e la sedentarietà portano ad un’alterazione della colonna vertebrale, che successivamente può spostare la mandibola in avanti, creando un morso scorretto. Il disallineamento dei denti è una delle principali cause del disturbo dell’ATM, ecco perché è importante evitare l’effetto a catena di una cattiva postura.
Quando si lavora per ore davanti al computer in posizione scorretta, con la testa piegata in avanti, l’allineamento verticale con la spalla e il resto della colonna viene deviato.
Ne subisce le conseguenze in particolar modo la muscolatura complessa dell’ATM – che non è destinata a reggere il peso della testa – ma anche i muscoli del collo e della spalla.
Quando i muscoli masticatori vengono richiesti per mantenere la testa in su, contro la gravità, essi limitano i movimenti naturali della mandibola, generando dolore, rigidità e blocco mandibolare.
Pertanto, nel caso di un disturbo dell’ATM, è importante innanzitutto farsi valutare l’assetto posturale da un Osteopata. Quest’ultimo, nel caso in cui fosse indicato, potrà intervenire con le tecniche manuali più adatte per migliorare l’aspetto biomeccanico e strutturale.
