Lo stomaco si connette con l’esofago tramite il cardias. Qui alcuni fasci muscolari autonomi creano una valvola che consente la discesa ma non la risalita del cibo. (Il reflusso si verifica quando i meccanismi di chiusura dello sfintere esofageo inferiore sono insufficienti o il gradiente pressorio dell’addome è troppo elevato. Diversi studi evidenziano come questo sfintere esofageo abbia un meccanismo di chiusura proprio, efficace al 50%, mentre il restante 50% viene svolto dalla porzione crurale del diaframma).

Un malfunzionamento gastrico può avere influssi sui processi digestivi dell’intestino e quindi sull’instaurarsi di tensioni e di un alterato processo digestivo dello stesso.
